Five random facts about me and my family.

I am awesome. I am fuzzy. Therefore fuzzy = awesome so
I'm going to sleep on your sweaters.
1. We have two cats. I have a theory that they prefer to sleep on fuzzy surfaces due to narcissism and the transitive property. "I've been awake for 20 straight minutes judging everything and am in desperate need of a 4 hour nap. I am a cat. I am fuzzy. I am awesome. This newly dry cleaned sweater is fuzzy. Therefore it too must be awesome and is worthy of being graced by my awesome fuzzy presence."

2. One time I was visiting family in Namibia and got trapped in a tent by a hippo. Bonus fun facts: hippos are can run up to 20 miles an hour on land and have a reputation for being assholes. Depressingly I have not been able to make this experience into a good cocktail party anecdote. Somehow "stuff that trapped you tents" never comes up organically in conversation.
3. My husband and I disagree on guns. I am in the "Wayne LaPierre sounds a leeeeetle crazy, no?" camp. He was an NRA member for years but cancelled his membership because "those assholes kept sending me all this *&^%/! mail." So I guess neither of us are big NRA fans but for different reasons.

4. We sit down to dinner as a family pretty much every night but it's rarely at our actual dining table. When we sit in chairs we all end up squirming around like toddlers in a fancy restaurant and eat as fast as we can so we can get up and be not-at the table any more.  So I had my husband make a coffee table the height of a Japanese dining table. Now we sit on pillows on the floor and have long, relaxed dinners around our coffee table.

5. We haven't had a family picture taken in over a year. I should probably do something about that...

    2. Lol -- I know what you mean. But your regular readers will know that you aren't! I won't even pull the "pics or it didn't happen" card on you. :)

  3. A random fact? I can probably count on one hand the number of times my husband and I have gotten in to bed to go to sleep at the same time since we got married. I have a full time law firm job, so have to sleep regular hours. He owns his own business, and is a techie, and loves staying up super late. He says that it's the only time he can think without all of his thoughts getting crowded up with everyone else's thoughts.

  4. I have a fear of elephants. When I was around 3 or 4 years of age, I went to the Circus under a big RED tent. We were sitting on bleachers watching the elephant act. The elephant decided to go on a rampage and stormed toward the bleachers. I remember being scooped up and carried to the top of the bleachers. I was terrified to say the least. I have hated Circus's ever since. I guess my experience was much like your's with the hippo.

    1. Oh my God! I would totally have a fear of elements after that. I'm already kind of creeped out by circuses. Though to be fair that's mainly because of clowns...

  5. We haven't had a "formal" family photo in 7 years, when only 4 of our 6 kids were alive. And I used to have my own photography business. Don't feel too bad about not having a photo. :)

    1. Whew! That does make me feel better! Sorting out a family photo so that it's a joyous and spontaneous experience is surprisingly challenging.

  7. We have two cats...I don't own any sweaters. Coincidence?

Good idea with the coffee table--that would be perfect for us!

  8. I like the hippo story!

Hubby and u used to stand while eating and sometimes still do. I also will sit on the carpet to eat (did last night) as chairs and tables can be restrictive ESP since I am "slim" or "petite" to many so I get th hardest to get out of chair. Ugh

    1. Someday I'll figure out a way to tell the hippo story on the internet... Until then I will take solace in the fact that I'm not the only person who doesn't like sitting in dining chairs.
